There are more than 3 million homes in the UK which are off the main gas grid and will need to consider alternative means of heating their homes. Here we highlight 3 reasons to choose heating oil:
Prices for heating oil fluctuate often. If you’re organised and ready to buy, you can purchase your fuel when you see a good price. By planning in advance and ordering your oil in plenty of time, you can also opt for the economy delivery service. This enables suppliers to plan their deliveries by area, saving on delivery costs. These savings are passed on to you by way of a lower rate for your oil.
Another way you can save is by making a larger order. So rather than regularly ordering 500 litres of heating oil, if you can fit 1000 litres in your tank, you’ll be able to take advantage of a cheaper rate. By ordering a larger volume this helps fuel suppliers to make less deliveries. This means these transportation savings can be passed on to you by way of a lower rate.
Compared with other forms of off grid heating, domestic oil is the most cost-effective fuel. It is highly efficient, which means that you get a good return on every unit of energy you use. Just one of the reasons to use heating oil. The graph below is from the UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association. You can see how the cost of heating oil compares with other forms of heating.
You’re in Control
You can decide how much oil you want to buy and when (although there is a minimum order quantity of 500 litres). When you place an order for heating, it is delivered directly into your tank. This means that you only ever pay for what you use. Many people plan and order their heating oil before the cold weather arrives, often purchasing it when the prices are at a low.
